Roof trusses and purlins for a warehouse

An 1,100 square metre warehouse needed eighteen trusses at a 14-metre span, plus purlins and bracing. The contractor had been let down on a previous job by steel that arrived unmarked and out of sequence, which cost them crane days.

We built the trusses on a jig so every one came out identical, returned shop drawings for approval before cutting, and marked each section to match the drawing.

The challenge

Eighteen identical long-span trusses, on a programme where crane hire was booked by the day. A previous supplier had delivered unmarked steel out of sequence, costing the contractor two crane days.

What we built

Shop drawings approved before cutting. Trusses jigged so every unit was interchangeable, every section stencilled to match the drawing, and delivery split into three loads matching the erection sequence rather than one crowded drop.

The results

All eighteen trusses erected in two crane days with no site modification. The contractor has since placed three further orders.
